Good morning, dear judges, I am NO.3. It’s my great honor to present my lesson here. Today, my topic is “My First Day at Senior High”(板书) . I will describe my teaching design from the following 6 aspects.
I will begin with the analysis of this lesson. This lesson is a reading passage.It is the first English lesson for my students in senior high school. It plays a very important part in this module their future English study. By studying this lesson, Ss can not only improve their reading ability; but also learn more about senior high school life. And the most important thing is that they should have the reset their English study strategy and begin to adapt to their senior high school life.
Well, based on the new curriculum standard, the teaching aims can be illustrated from 3 aspects.
1. Knowledge aim: Understand the main idea and the structure of the text.
2. Ability aim: students logical and critical thinking can be trained/ guide the
Students
Develop their reading abilities of skimming, scanning and concluding.
3. Emotional aim: help the Students develop their love for the new senior high school life.
According to the teaching aims, the teaching key point is to help the students master the structure and language of this passage.
The teaching difficult point is to how to enable the students to improve their reading ability.
So much for the analysis of teaching material, next let’s go on with the analysis of students. The Ss are in grade one, they have acquired some knowledge of senior high school, But they are lack of vocabulary. And they don’t often use English to express themselves or communicate with others.
To make the Ss become the real masters in class, I will adopt task-based teaching method and communicative approach with the help of multimedia instructions and blackboard.
And at the same time, Students will work in pairs and in groups to discuss some questions concerning the text and express their own ideas.
So next comes to the most important part. Teaching procedures. To realize the teaching process systematically and properly, I will divide it into 5 steps.
Step 1 pre-reading
I will show a short video clip taken from the popular movie called “High School Musical” in which a vivid life of high school students is presented. Then, I will have a free talk with the students, and ask them how long have you been in our school? And what’s your first impression on your senior high school life? The students are encouraged to brainstorm words, phrases or sentences concerning their school life, such the playground is big, the dining hall is splendid and so on. ……
This step will cost about 5 minutes and the purpose of it is to motivate the students’ learning interests of the topic.
Step 2 while reading
It consists of two parts: extensive reading and intensive reading.
Part 1 Extensive reading
I will ask the students to skim the passage quickly and try to match the paragraphs with the topics (板书topics,连线)I show them on the screen.
Part 2 Intensive reading
I will guide the students to scan the passage carefully. After that, I will arrange a group discussion to discuss some questions,
1.what’s the difference between Li Kang’s junior and senior high school life?
2. What are the two important things that Li Kang’s English teacher thinks are important?
3. Are senior high teachers similar to junior high teachers? After the discussion, I will invite 2 or 3 groups to share their answers. By this kind of questions, students can grasp more detailed information from the passage and they can understand the passage better.
The while reading of the passage will last about 20 minutes. The purpose of this step is to help the students practice their reading skills and develop their cooperative ability.
Step 3 Post-reading
In this step, I will make a survey among students. I will give them some questions such as what’s your ideal high School life and your English class? 板书
To change the real school life to ideal ones, we need hard work and rules. / to make a balance between them, we need...
The purpose of this step is to consolidate the students’ knowledge and cultivate their team spirit.
Step 4 Summary and homework
I will ask the students to summarize what they learned today and give a brief oral report.
Through the summary students can get a better knowledge of what they’ve learned today I can also know the weakness of my teaching process.
In the end, the students will be asked to write a composition on the topic “My first day at senior high”.
The purpose is to enhance their writing ability and deepen their understanding of the text.
Up to now, my presentation is almost to the end, and this is my blackboard design.
After class, I will have a deep reflection.
